Going, Going, Gone

Taken at Sunset Dam, Kruger National Park, South Africa

A hippo can sleep underwater because if you look closely, you can see little whiskers on the end of its nose. These whiskers sense when it breaks the surface of the water and can breathe again. Watching hippos, they move up and down constantly with a breath of air being released as they come up above the water’s surface. They sit and watch you and then as you get your camera ready, they disappear again with only ripples left behind. (…I’m sure they mean it!)
