Waterbucks are a common sight in the Lowveld and the most recognisable feature is the ring around their behind. A story that I always enjoy telling is how the waterbuck got this marking.
When Noah was on his ark with all the animals, there were so many that they had to take it in turns to go to the toilet. The hyaenas and Baboons were tricksters so the hyaenas decided to play a trick and paint the toilet seats white for the next animal. When the waterbucks came along and sat down, they marked their bottoms with a ring of white…. the hyaenas never stopped laughing.
