Pre-Summer Visitors

Taken at Selati Game Reserve, South Africa

The big rains had been delayed but we were sure they were on their way, in the mean time we had the sprinklers going to keep our small patch of lawn alive at camp. The sight of “creepy crawlies” usually indicates the coming of the rains… or that they have arrived. Frogs, caterpillars, butterflies, spiders, snakes and all kinds of animals that have been in hiding over winter start making their way out in the open.

On this occasion we had visits from these butterflies. The white, an “Angolan White Lady” Butterfly and the blue one, a “Mamba (Black) Swallowtail” Butterfly. The swallowtails became quite common for a few weeks before the arrival of the little yellow butterflies that are common all throughout the Lowveld.
