Taken at Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
We sat and watched. The lions resting under a tree had a herd of buffalo moving up and over the river bank right towards them. More lions crept out from the reeds to join the pride. Then they moved into formation… too late. The herd of buffalo finally noticed the lions presence and made it known. Their heads where up, smelling the air and grunting in aggression.
Some of the lions slunk back to the tree but the buffalo decided this was not enough – they wanted the tree! Three brave lions got curious and approached the herd only to be chased even further away as soon as they were deemed too close. The episode ended with the lions moving to a tree further away before moving over the water to where the buffalo had initially arrived from.
