Our next entry comes again from the magnificent lake Manyara in Tanzania. The lions in this area are well known as “tree climbing lions” which is exactly where this female was located! A pride of 7 were in the area with 5 of them all up in the same tree! The tradition goes that due to the large volume of elephants in the area and the narrow park boundaries, the Lions were force to adapt and climb the trees to keep away from the huge animals.
This photo was taken with a sigma zoom lens but even so only about 10m away (up)! The application of a fish eye effect really brings out the tremendous teeth of this female and offers a very nice, although slightly scary, perspective on the lady.
